Greening The Honda RYA Rib Challenge
The Green Blue and Chevron have recently collaborated to help the Honda rib powerboat competition to be as environmentally sensitive as possible.
Oil and water do not mix! Oil/fuel in water can greatly impact marine life. Just one litre of oil can pollute over 1000 litres of water. Many spills can be avoided. Fuel collars placed around the nozzle of fuel pumps can prevent fuel from dripping onto the boat, or into the water and oil spilt aboard can be removed by special cloths specifically made to absorb oil.
Power boating is an exciting sport and is rapidly increasing in popularity. The Honda rib competition is an excellent way of stirring interest in children at an early age and getting them involved. It is important that children are taught both how to drive a power boat safely and how to avoid damaging the marine environment so that the sport is sustainable.
In response, The Green Blue and Chevron Limited, Pembroke Refinery, have collaborated to promote good environmental practice to the competitors.
To engage with the competitors and clubs, each competitor will receive a reusable water bottle branded with our logos. We will also be giving the heat winners and the Regional finalists a spill kit and oil collar for their Club to use when fuelling their boats.
