Special Screening of Arena: The Hunt for Moby Dick
The Hampshire and IOW Wildlife Trust is hosting a special performance of the feature length documentary, Arena's "The Hunt for Moby Dick" which confronts our fascination with one of the most mysterious creatures of the ocean, the whale.
Filmed in England, America and the Azores over four years, the documentary follows Philip Hoare as he writes his book, Leviathan or, The Whale - winner of the 2009 BBC Samuel Johnson prize for non-fiction. In an epic journey that takes him from his hometown of Southampton to the whaling ports of New Bedford and Nantucket and finally to the islands of the Azores, Philip enters a world haunted by a bloody and violent past and an uncertain future.
This special showing in aid of the Trust will take place at the Harbour Lights Cinema in Southampton on Thursday 3 September at 8.15pm. An introductory talk and Q&A session with Philip Hoare, the director Adam Low and producer Martin Rosenbaum will accompany the film and signed copies of Philip's book will be available for purchase.
