Celebrating Scotland’s seas, Saturday /Sunday 29th and 30th March/Campbeltown


The Argyll and Bute Beach Forum is organising an event in Campbeltown to raise awareness on the marine environment.The event is free but places are limited, please contact The GRAB Trust to book a place.

Location: Heritage Centre, Campbeltown

Displays / information from the following organisations:

  • Clyde Forum
  • SAMS
  • The Green Blue Initiative
  • HM Coastguards, Campbeltown
  • ‘Breaks’ Campbeltown surf shop
  • Kintyre Surfing School

Speakers:

  • Stan Phillips, Scottish Natural Heritage: ‘The wildlife of Machrihanish Dunes Site of Special Scientific Interest’
  • Robin Harvey, SAMS: ‘Beach Life Project’
  • Eddie MacGuire, Machrihanish Wildlife Observatory: ‘Wildlife photographs’
  • Professor Ronald J Roberts: ‘Kintyre – Key Cradle of Fish Farming’

Other activities:

  • Saturday afternoon: The Lifeboat organisation will have an open day to visit the boat.
  • Sunday morning: Beach clean at Westport in support of Home Start Campbeltown (Breaks Surf Shop has kindly donated a t-shirt or hoody for a lucky winner).
  • Sunday afternoon: Machrihanish Environmental Research Lab open day (advance booking only).
  • Previous weeks: schools’ visit /marine litter workshops.

Children activities: art workshops for children (under 8’s accompanied by an adult). They will be making sea creatures from stones, shells, etc.
