Eleanor Steinitz uses an Aqua Laundry Ball to do her washing, both at home and on board her longboat. It can be used for both handwashing and in a washing machine. She says:
"When I am on my boat, I enjoy sharing the canal with the creatures who live there all the time - graceful swans, friendly ducks and herons concentrating on finding supper.
"If I empty toxic stuff into their watery world I will damage them, the food they depend on, and they will disappear. With no songbirds to wake me in the morning, no fish to watch under the water, no herons or kingfishers to delight the day, with fewer bright flowers along the canal banks then it will be no pleasure to go boating. So I am very careful what I put into the canal and never use anything that might affect the quality of the water.
"I was pleased when I discovered the washball: I can now do the family washing to an acceptable standard without putting any soap into the animals' environment. It is also very economical, and my hands suffer less than with the soap powders - and no boxes to throw away either!"
